【Medicinal part】

Gan Cao:

Dried roots and rhizomes of Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fisch., Glycyrrhiza inflata Bat. or Glycyrrhiza glabra L. of leguminous plant Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fisch.

Zhi Gan Cao:

Processed products of raw medicinal Gan Cao.

【Method of processing】

Gan Cao:

Take the original medicinal materials, remove the reed heads and impurities, separate the large and small strips, soak until 30% to 40% transparent, pick up and soften, cut into thick slices, and dry. Gan Cao is often used for purging fire and detoxifying.

Zhi Gan Cao:

Dilute the refined honey with an appropriate amount of boiling water, add Gan Cao slices, mix well, moisten it for a while, put it in a hot pot, and fry it with a slow fire until the surface is dark yellow and not sticky, take it out and let it cool. 【Characteristics of Herbal Pieces】

Gan Cao:

1. Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fisch.: The root is cylindrical, 25-100cm long and 0.6-3.5cm in diameter. The outer skin varies in tightness. The surface is reddish-brown or gray-brown, with prominent longitudinal wrinkles, grooves, lenticels and sparse fine root scars. 2. Glycyrrhiza inflata Bat.: Roots and rhizomes are woody and strong, some are branched, and the skin is rough, mostly gray-brown or gray-brown. The quality is hard, the wood fiber is much, and the powder is small. Rhizome adventitious buds many and thick.   

3. Glycyrrhiza glabra L.: The roots and rhizomes are relatively solid, with some branches, the outer skin is not rough, mostly grayish brown, and the lenticels are thin and not obvious.

Zhi Gan Cao:

The shape is like Gan Cao, the surface is dark yellow, slightly shiny, slightly sticky and sweet.
